(I say arguably because she seemed to be holding her own against Pearl in On The Run.) When danger comes about she doesn't give in to fear and her teammates trust her enough to fuse with her in deadly situations. Loyalty: Amethyst has stood steadfastly with the Crystal Gems despite arguably being the weakest physically of all of them. She's also contributed to Steven's continued development of his powers by passing along her knowledge of her own powers. She shares a familiarity with him that is more sibling like than either of the other two gems and this seems to be fairly important to him considering he has been seen to worry about her physical well-being.

Nobility: In Indirect Kiss even though her physical form is failing her, she still sticks her neck out to ensure Steven's well-being.Įmpathy: Not in general but throughout the series she has related to Steven the easiest due to her origins and personality.

She might be too bashful to apologize to him directly in front of the other Gems but this shows that she at least acknowledges the sanctity of Rose and Greg's relationship and may also be her way of saying how wrong she was. These are all facets of her personality that come out in the show but don't necessarily define who she is because, as we have seen, she can also act with:Ĭompassion and repentance: At the end of Maximum Capacity, she gives Greg a new frame for his picture of him and Rose to replace the old, broken one. Is she irresponsible? Certainly.add in a host of other words like unbalanced, unfocused, short tempered and what have you. All this is pointed out by Steven at the end of the episode and Pearl and Garnet relent when they realize that this course of action was good for her. In that specific episode instead of furthering the conflict with her emotions she put them into something arguably constructive. This is actually a pretty mature decision on her part and one I don't think gets pointed out enough. She gets that inner pressure relieved in the wrestling ring. Why do I say this? Amethyst is hot headed, she needs to blow off some steam every once in a while as we see in Tiger Millionaire. This causes conflict with her teammates and is probably a great source of frustration for her. Sure she likes to have fun but she often doesn't really know where to draw the line and reign it in. Amethyst has a wild side part of this can be attributed to her personality and the other part of it can be attributed to immaturity. She's genuine and often brutally honest which I can appreciate.īut take away that facet of her personality and what are you left with? Well, a surprisingly complex if unbalanced character. When it comes to the mundane daily life in Beach City she's not afraid to be herself and is often headstrong and confident. She's laid back, she has a great sense of humor, she loves to have fun and has a style of talking and acting that are unique to her.

As someone who enjoys her character immensely I feel compelled to present my full analysis on why she is a likeable and important member of the Crystal Gems:įirst question: Is she likeable? Of course she is! That's IMO though and here's why Amethyst, as has been stated before, is a bit more in tune with humans than your average gems seem to be. She's been said to be weak, whiny, irresponsible and a host of other descriptions that, while some may be true of her I feel that they may miss the point. I've noticed over the course of my stay in the sub that out of all of the Crystal Gems, Amethyst may have the worst reputation amongst us.
